The long Week!!!
So, I became a lineman because the money is good, it interests me even though I do not like electricity, and the working hours are 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday. I know what more could one ask for. It is rare to find such good working hours at other jobs and pay such good money. Anyway. I was not on call this past week but sunday we had some really bad weather come through our small town and large coverage area reaking havick on our power. Sunday I went out for 2 and a half hours because the wind ripped poer lines of of poles and broke insulators and tripped breakers. Monday at 5:30 am we had a tranformer hit by lightning then I went straight to work. I got off at 5pm and was called in shortly after about 6:15pm another tranformer was hit by lightning. Teusday I was called out at 10pm due to lightning once again hitting another transformer and closing breakers. Wednesday I started work at 5am stringing wire down in Yuma got finished and went back to work on a job we have been doing. 5 pm came around and I was headed home not expexting much. At 7pm I was called out cause lighting hit a line and it burnt down. By the way the rain was coming down like crazy since about 6pm. we had many other problems and went around fixing them. The most interesting of the problems was a pole went down and the people were out of power so we tried to get the digger truck in to set the pole up and I got stuck. We were stuck many times that evening. It was about 3am the next morning and 4 of us were lifting the pole into a 3 foot hole we dug and put temporary anchors to hold it up till the ground was dry enough to get a truck in to set a new pole. Wow what a job. I started to feel sorry for the lineman before me that did not have the luxury of a digger truck. At about 4:30am the rain stopped and we had the pole upright and anchored. On to the next problems we went and by the time we had finished it was 6am and I was asked if I wanted to go eat breakfast on the company. In other cases I would have jumped on it but my stomach as not feeling good so I went home too a half hour nap and went to work. I was dang tired and was asked to go to Greeley in the afternoon to pick up one of our trucks that was being worked on. Wouldn't you know they would send the 2 tiredest guys to do it. we made it home. Then we finished the rest of the week with no after hours calls. We will see how this week goes cause I start call tomorrow.
